Keloid and Hypertrophic Scar Treatment in Bangkok
Keloids are raised firm scars that grow beyond the original wound boundary and can be itchy, tender, or disfiguring. Hypertrophic scars are raised but stay within wound boundaries. Both are challenging to treat — and most aesthetic clinics worsen them with inappropriate excision. A board-certified dermatologist combines multiple modalities for optimal results.
Siam Dermatology in Samut Prakan treats keloids and hypertrophic scars. Led by Dr. Patara Voravutinon.

Every patient is examined personally by Dr. Patara Voravutinon, a Diplomate of the Thai Board of Dermatology (Medical Council of Thailand license 54323).
- Intralesional corticosteroid injections — triamcinolone, often the first-line treatment.
- Intralesional 5-FU — alone or combined with corticosteroid for resistant keloids.
- Pulsed dye laser (PDL) — reduces redness and improves texture, often combined with steroid.
- Cryotherapy — intralesional cryotherapy for select keloids.
- Surgical excision with adjuvant therapy — excision alone almost always recurs; must be combined with post-excision steroid injections, pressure therapy, or radiation.
- Silicone sheets and gels — for hypertrophic scars and prevention.
Why see a board-certified dermatologist
Simple excision of a keloid by an aesthetic clinic without follow-up steroid injections has a >90% recurrence rate — often returning larger than before. A board-certified dermatologist combines excision with adjuvant therapy to prevent recurrence. Intralesional injections require correct dose, depth, and timing.
