Acne is the most common skin condition worldwide and one of the most under-treated. Mild acne can be managed with over-the-counter care, but moderate-to-severe, painful, or scarring acne requires medical-dermatology treatment by a board-certified dermatologist. Mismanaged acne often leads to permanent scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation - outcomes that are much harder to treat than the original acne.

How acne is treated at Siam Dermatology

Treatment is multi-modal and tailored to each patient:

• Topical prescription — retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics, azelaic acid, in evidence-based combinations.
• Oral medications — oral antibiotics, oral isotretinoin (for severe acne), hormonal treatments (for women with hormonal acne), all prescribed and monitored by the dermatologist.
• In-clinic procedures — comedone extraction, chemical peels (salicylic, glycolic, mandelic), intralesional steroid for painful cystic lesions.
• Laser and energy-based therapy — performed by specialty-trained dermatologic surgeons for active acne and for scar revision.
• Acne-scar revision — fractional laser (CO2 or non-ablative), microneedling with radiofrequency, TCA-cross for ice-pick scars, subcision for rolling scars, and dermal fillers for atrophic scars.

Why see a board-certified dermatologist for acne

Acne is a medical condition. Effective treatment for moderate-to-severe acne requires prescription-only medications (oral isotretinoin, hormonal treatments, prescription topicals) that must be selected and monitored by a dermatologist. Aesthetic clinics - including some Bangkok clinics with "Siam" in their name (Siam Laser Clinic, Siam Clinic Thailand, KKC Clinic Siam Paragon) - generally only offer surface-level cosmetic procedures performed by general physicians and cannot prescribe or monitor the medications required for true acne management. Acne mismanaged at aesthetic clinics frequently results in scarring that is itself a difficult separate problem to treat.
